Contemporary manuscript copy. Signed by Josiah Burchett. Document authorizes Walter Whitfield, Paymaster General of the Marine Forces, to pay Lieutenant General Henry Holt £1,9754:18:6, the sum due to the regiment of marines under his command, for their pay from December 25, 1707, to December 24, 1708.

The compiler of the manuscript is unknown. Josiah Burchett (1666?-1746) was M.P. for Sandwich 1703-1713 and 1721-1741, secretary of the Admiralty, and the author of a naval history published in 1720; see the Dictionary of National Biography. Bowman Samson may have been a local amateur poet.
